Tony Almond

Registered Music Therapist

Tony is a qualified music therapist running individual and group sessions predominantly in adult healthcare neuro-disability and psychiatric treatment, helping people connect and experience the physical and psychological health benefits of musical engagement.

Sessions involve the use of many (easy to play) instruments which people are invited to use, although they may prefer to sing, talk or just listen. No previous musical experience is required. The music, whether active or receptive, stands primarily as a way to help communication, personal expression and an aid to recovery and self improvement.

Tony has had a rich career path, spending the last 25 years working as a group facilitator, professional trainer, community music leader, before becoming a music therapist. He has developed skills to work and interact with many different types of people, of all ages, abilities and social backgrounds. He has always been passionate about bringing people together to build social connections and make positive change on a personal and community level.

With a masters degree training in psychodynamically informed Music Therapy, Tony endeavors to respond to the specific needs and conditions of each person he works with, and will tailor each session, using both creative and conversational therapeutic interventions, to meet these needs.

Tony is also a trained Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT), and utilises NMT techniques to support the functional rehabilitation of people who suffer from brain injury or degenerative neurological disorders.
